Hampton for real (again)?

Douglas S. Hillman 29 April 2005 03:55:03
So do we think that Mike Hampton is on the road to a good year?

He's on the waiver wire. Would you drop one of these starters for him?
Chris Carpenter, Arroyo, J. Marquis, or Mark Mulder? As a Cub fan, I
wouldn't mind divesting myself of one of the St. Louis guys. :) Marquis or
Carpenter. Though Arroyo's looked a little questionable this year, and is
probably only hanging on to his starters spot due to injuries to the rest of
the staff.

12 team mixed, with pitching stats being W, S, K-BB, ERA & WHIP.

Hampton's pitching aweful well, but not striking alot of guys out. I can
live with the low K-BB total if I wasn't worried that his record has been
the result of luck, more than anything this year.

Is he gonna come back to Earth and be the Hampton of the last coupla years,
or does he still have some of the pre-2000 Hampton in him?

I would certainly drop Arroyo for him.

Hampton has won something like 12 of his last 13 or something similar going
back to last year. I was always down on him but if you look at his record he
has been pretty impressive. I picked him up off the waiver wire about two
weeks ago and certainly can't complain about his performance (even if I
accidentally left him on the bench for his last start!). He is definitely
worth the pick up.

After seeing Arroyo pitch for Pittsburgh, I can tell you this guy sucks. The
AL wasn't used to him last year but I'm sure they figured him out by now.
Drop him.

Hampton has reestablished himself and looks to have a career year.
