Warren Nolan vs Boyd's Psuedo RPI

Todd Warner 19 May 2005 04:20:51
Can anybody explain to me what Warren Nolan is doing different in their RPI
calculations than Boyd's?

Is my assumption that Boyd's is going to be the closer (or the same) as what
the NCAA will see?

He (they? I have enough of that "assuming there must be more than one person
there" problem not to wish it on anyone) is using the old basketball formula,
or was the last time I checked. It's close but not quite right for baseball.

Obviously I have a dog in this hunt (although frankly there's no real
advantage to me if people use my RPI's instead of his, so I don't, really),
but, yeah, mine are very close to right. The only places mine differed from
the actual report last year was in the trivia -- I don't bother with tie
games, I can't always tell what's going to be counted as a neutral site
game, and I don't bother with the penalties for non-D1 games after the
fifth one.

Thanks for the explanation. I figured it was something like that, but
better to hear it from the horses mouth.
