New Regionals Format

No Saturday tripleheaders. Did this just come out, or has it gone under
everyone's radar? Is TV coverage the reason behind this?

A new NCAA rule, passed in midseason, prohibits playing> seven-inning games or counting as official any game of fewer than nine> innings unless weather halts play. If an inning is under way today at 3> p.m. and there is no winner after the completion of that inning, the> game will not count in the standings or on either team's won-lost> record.

HATE IT.

Anyone have any idea who it was that pushed for this rule change?

Someone apparently forgot to notify Augie -- UT played a 7-inning game
yesterday to finish their doubleheader.
You do understand that the second part written there is the SEC Sunday> Travel Rule right? This is an SEC Only rule.

The Big 12 also has Sunday travel curfews.
I can't stand the travel rule. I've seen coaches actually slowing the> game down on purpose when they are behind. Agreed, but I think it's an unfortunate necessity. You also see coaches
pulling the same stunts when there's bad weather approaching.

Whoops:

http://ncaasports.com/baseball/mens/story/8388131

"Seven-inning games are only considered regulation when they are part of
a doubleheader, defined as a game between the same two teams with the
second game beginning no more than 30 minutes after the conclusion of
the first. Under NCAA rules, doubleheaders may be played using two
nine-inning games, two seven-inning games or one of each."

They didn't change the rules, they just remembered they had a rule.
Somebody asked the rules committee why these games counted, and they
responded that they shouldn't. The baseball committee, though, has more or
less overruled them, declaring that they would grandfather in all games
before April 18. It will probably force some changes for next season,
though -- both the mercy rule games and the 7-inning early-season Florida
special are gone unless the rules change. D2 and D3 have a real mess on
their hands for this year, too, as they didn't get the same deal from their
baseball committees.
