Hey didn't Canseco say he was steroid free? Shouldn't that make his numbers look even better? You think the media will take that into account? Naaaahhhhh....
It's gonna be tough for him... ...first consider the precedent for guys who played near the minimum ten years (Kiner had to "good samaritanize" his way in albeit 7 straight NL hr crowns, Hack Wilson was very diminutive in size, a short dozen years, and little efforts aside his mammoth 56/190 one hit wonder), and then factor in Belle being in the newly devalued "'Roids Era", it looks bleak - he'll have to campaign hard. Hell, Mattingly can't even get in. JackyR and his brief 10 years breaking barriers was a no-brainer tho....

Just so this is clear to the people who don't read the linked article, Vizquel says that *Belle* used a corked bat all the time, not that he (Vizquel) used one.
Norm Cash also confessed to using corked bats throughout his big '61 season.

Well I guess that would cancel out his lack of steroids then...

Even forgetting how much he hurt his teams with his immaturity, I don't see it. He was a great hitter, but not so great that he gets in (let alone on the first ballot) on those career numbers.

His stats are mindboggling. Two partial seasons at the start of his career and then 10 str8 years where he averaged 37 HR and 120 ribbies!! Kiner, koufax and puckett made the HOF with careers of same length but i'm not sure they belong. With so many people hating belle it's gonna be tough but he was just as good a player as puckett.
"Cameron Laird"> .> You think voters *favored* Wilson for his short height?
They probably were hesistant to vote him in because he was kind of a Hank-the-angry-drunk-dwarf kind of dude (Hack the Angry Dwarfї), no, but really, mainly because he didnt play that long
How was Kiner a good samaritan?
It took longer than expected for him to be enshrined, and it really was capped off with him being on the radio all that time with the Mets exposing his goodguy character- if he was a jerkoff, couldve been a lot longer. That's where I think Belle is gonna lose his cause

Easy, his career wasn't long enough, and was aided by one of the best pitcher's parks in baseball. He had 3 great seasons ('63, '65, '66), and 1 other that was great, but relatively short ('64). From '62-'66 he was other-worldly, going 111-34 with an ERA less than 2.00, but it was also done in a tremendous pitcher's park. Dodger Stadium's park factors were around 92 during his time there. But the first 7 years he went 54-53, ERA around 4.00, while playing in hitter's parks (Ebbets Field, LA Coliseum).
He also has a very low win total for a starter to be in the HOF. And his rate stats never suffered from the normal decline players experience in their 30's.
Had he played in somewhat neutral parks his entire career, and still quit at 30, it's unlikely he'd be in the HOF. His career numbers might be similar, but I doubt he has 3 Cy's, 3 Triple Crowns, and an MVP, and the "aura" of greatness to boost his electability.

Reckon that RJ has about a 5% chance this season if fit, assuming that Rivera's troubles are a blip and RJ stays fully fit.
That's pretty close to the ideal situation - great pitcher, great hitting line up, decent bullpen to save the wins.
Pedro wasn't PEDRO in '03 or '04 when the Sox got 900+ runs. 1999 Pedro might have done it either of the last two years.

Especially considereing the relief pitcher factor compared to past years...
