Guest 2 March 2005 01:46:25
What exactly is the difference between a no-hitter and a perfect game?

Thanks!

There's no base on ball or /and errors in a perfect game. None of the 27
hitters go on base.

In a no-hitter a batter can still reach base by a walk, hit batsman,
error, etc., just no 'hits' are recorded. In a perfect game, no one
reaches base at all for any reason.

It's still a perfect game if there's an error on a foul fly ball,
allowing the batter to stick around until he's retired some other way.

Right. And the OP might be interested to know that a few pitchers have
actually pitched no-hitters and LOST the game, with one or more runs scoring
by batters who reached base and advanced to score on some combination of
walks and fielding errors. In a perfect game, of course, that can't happen.
No baserunners at all.

Perry
