No one here is discussing the Mike Greenwell argument. Greenwell argues that because Jose Canseco's career is tainted, Canseco should forfeit the 1988 MVP. That MVP award should then fall to the second-place finisher, who happens to be Mike Greenwell.
The problem, of course, is that Greenwell received 0 first-place votes. He cannot know how the voting would have played out in a scenario without Canseco.

It's an obviously bogus argument, since steroids weren't actually against the rules at the time. It's like trying to void Big Ed Walsh's career because he threw a spitter. In any case, I think that there has to be some kind of statute of limitations that's long since expired. If nobody is going to go after acknowledged cheaters like Gaylord Perry, it doesn't make any sense to go after Canseco, either.

That's because there's nothing to discuss. I'm a Red Sox fan, and I think his arguments are a waste of time. It's unfair that that he lost the MVP to a steroid user, but there's no conceivable way that they're going to award him the MVP. So he needs to move on and not let this eat him for the rest of his life.

Since Greenwell was for a long time the only major league player to share my July 18 birthday (until A-Rod came along), I side with Mikey.

Sorry to break it to you, but ARod's birthday is July 27; I happen to know because he shares _my_ birthday. You'll have to be satisfied that Ben Sheets, Torii Hunter, and manager Joe Torre share your birthday.

I *meant* Ben Sheets! Heh. I don't know why I typed A-Rod, really. I guess I just hadn't looked in a while. But, yes, Ben Sheets is who I meant.
I was unaware of Torri Hunter, but that's good too.
I knew about Torre, but his all-star playing career already passed.
